Retail Store Openings and Closings February 2019

February store opening and closing numbers from Chain Store Guide stayed steady in store openings and store closings. In February we saw 575 new store openings while in January we saw 621. Store closures in February saw 623 and slightly higher at 722 in January. For February we saw a net loss of 48 stores which is similar to the 101 net loss we saw in January.

Viewing results from a geographic perspective, the states that saw the most store openings were TX – 55, CA – 42, FL – 38, OH – 27. The states that saw the most store closings were NY – 48, GA – 44, CA – 39 and TX/PA tied with 33 each.
